Episode 30: How to Thrive by Setting Healthy Personal Boundaries

Boundaries

In this episode of the Sweatpants Chronicles we’re talking about how and why to set healthy boundaries in your life! Setting boundaries is how you define what is and isn’t ok in your world and your relationships. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed and resentful towards the people around you, it’s probably due to a lack of boundaries. So we talk about how to figure out what your boundaries are, how to clearly set them, and how to effectively hold to them. It’s a process that takes time, patience and practice but one that is also immensely rewarding and will allow you to truly thrive in every aspect of your life.

Weekly Obsessions

Tristi: This week I’m obsessed with having more “unplugged” time. I’ve started putting my phone in my room to charge when I’m home so that I just don’t have the temptation to pick it up and waste time scrolling.

Cassidy: I have a new coffee mug that I’m obsessed with! I don’t think I’ve mentioned before but I collect mugs and even have them displayed in my office. I got this new one a TJ Maxx for $3 and I love it.

Weekly Obsessions

Tristi: I got my nose pierced a few days ago! I’m still not sure if I’m obsessed with it. But I’m definitely obsessed with how scared I was  😉 I was scared of what people were going to think but mostly I was scared of that needle going into my nose!! I went to Abyss Body Piercing in Salt Lake and they were so great. Courtney is the owner and she did my piercing. I would recommend her to anyone!

Cassidy: I finally hired somebody to do my laundry and get me completely caught up. So all of my laundry is done!! And all of our closets are clean and organized. I also sent about 15 bags to the Boys and Girls Club on Friday which felt amazing.

Cassidy: This week I am obsessed with all things Crossfit! This Crossfit Open is happening right now. It’s such a good time to hang out with your friends and push yourself a little harder than you normally do. It’s five weeks of a new workout every week and I love everything about it!

Episode 26: Coping with Fear and Anxiety in the Wake of a School Shooting

Coping with Fear and Anxiety

In this episode of the Sweatpants Chronicles we’re tackling a really tough topic – the recent shooting at a Florida high school. Emotions always run high after a tragedy of this magnitude. And in the social media age where we have constant access to stories and opinions it can be very difficult to cope with the fear and anxiety surrounding violence in schools. So we wanted to discuss how parents, and really any adult, can mange their own grief. And then why and how to talk to kids and teens about these situations.

During the show we mention the official Go Fund Me page for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the 17 people who lost their lives in this horrible tragedy. You can click here if you would like to find out how to donate. You can also click here to read about each of the victims.

Weekly Obsessions

Tristi: This week I am obsessed with #shutupanddribble. You can read more about the story here. But basically, Lebron James spoke out about some political issues in an interview on ESPN. A Fox News  host then said that he just needs to “shut up and dribble.” I was pretty horrified at that response and so were my kids. I just can’t believe this is the world we live in.

Cassidy: Right now I’m totally obsessed with the snow! It FINALLY snowed here. I went snowboarding earlier this week and it was just a perfect day. It was one of my happiest happy places.

Episode 24: Finding Beauty, Confidence, and Success with Tiffany Hendrickson

Tiffany Hendrickson

In this episode of the Sweatpants Chronicles we are so thrilled to be chatting with three time Crossfit Games athlete, Tiffany Hendrickson! Tiffany was the 11th Fittest Woman on Earth in 2014 and was a member of the 2017 Affiliate Cup Championship Team, Wasatch Brutes.

Tiffany Hendrickson

This incredible mom-of-three retired from life as a professional Crossfit athlete after the Games last year. She then found herself in unfamiliar territory after a lifetime of competitive athletics. She talked candidly with us about her determination to find beauty, confidence and success in this new stage of life. Tiffany gives actionable steps for embracing your self worth beyond your outward accomplishments. Her wisdom and advice is applicable to just about anyone – whether you’ve ever been an athlete or not.

Weekly Obsessions

Tristi: By the time this episode airs one of my obsessions is kind of out of date, haha, but it was the Super Bowl! And unfortunately my team lost. But I’m still looking forward to the Heber Humbler competition at Crossfit Vapor this Saturday despite having injured my elbow. I’m just going to tape it up and hope it all works out! 😉

Cassidy: I am obsessed with my amaryllis right now! Mine just bloomed last week and it’s two and a half feet tall, and the blooms are bigger than my hands. I love it!

Tiffany: I recently went on my second snowmobiling trip and I am so obsessed! I could do that every day for the rest of the winter and be really happy. I’ve also been really into the show Suits lately. And drinking lots of coffee as always.

Episode 23: The Pursuit of Happy

The Pursuit of Happy

In this episode of the Sweatpants Chronicles we’re talking about the pursuit of happy and why it can actually be damaging to your mental health! We give you ideas for embracing every emotion that may come your way throughout the day. We also talk about how to reframe the goal to be “happy” to being “content” instead.

Weekly Obsessions

Cassidy: This week I’m obsessed with gardening…which I know sounds a little weird since it is January. I’ve been looking at seeds and thinking about getting them started inside this year. I might even put some plastic on my beds and get my lettuces started early! I mean, I’ve got to make the most of the lack of snow we’ve had the year!

Tristi: My obsession this week, for better or for worse, is weight. I haven’t weighed myself in a long time and have been doing great and killing it in the gym. Well I stepped on a scale this week and I had gained ten pounds. It kind of ruined my life this week. So I’m working to move past that.

Episode 22: Why Are You So Selfish?

Self Care

In this episode of the Sweatpants Chronicles we’re talking about self care – what it is, why it’s so important and why it isn’t actually SELFISH. We have found that women (us included!) have a really hard time doing anything for themselves without feeling selfish. So during this episode we really question that idea and whether self care can actually be in the interest of everyone around you.

Weekly Obsessions

Cassidy: Honestly this week I’ve been obsessed with figuring out the whole Aziz Ansari thing and looking at consent and women’s rights and saying no. There are so many ins and outs in this situation! There is a big difference in where our society was six months ago, a year ago, 25 years ago, and where it is today. So it’s hard to know how we get to that balance where everybody is safe and ok. We’ll have to do a more in depth conversation some time on consent and saying no and how hard it really is to say no in tough situations.

Tristi: My obsession this week is a little less serious than Cass’ 😉 I’ve been obsessed with burpees! Dave Castro, who is the director of the Crossfit Games, changed the games standard for burpees just last week. You can no longer step down and up – you have to jump down and up. I already stink at burpees when I can step up and step back so this is going to be bad for me.

Episode 21: The Importance of Saying “No”

Saying No

In this episode of the Sweatpants Chronicles Cassidy is on her own! Tristi needed to say “no” to the podcast this week so she could say “yes” to other things. So Cassidy decided to talk about the importance of saying “no.” It’s such a hard thing to learn to do but it becomes easier when you reframe what is actually happening when you say “no.” Instead of concentrating on what you’re saying “no” to think about what you’re actually saying “yes” to instead! You’re time is precious and you need to say “yes” to the most important things in your life.
