Episode 26: Coping with Fear and Anxiety in the Wake of a School Shooting

Coping with Fear and Anxiety

In this episode of the Sweatpants Chronicles we’re tackling a really tough topic – the recent shooting at a Florida high school. Emotions always run high after a tragedy of this magnitude. And in the social media age where we have constant access to stories and opinions it can be very difficult to cope with the fear and anxiety surrounding violence in schools. So we wanted to discuss how parents, and really any adult, can mange their own grief. And then why and how to talk to kids and teens about these situations.

During the show we mention the official Go Fund Me page for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the 17 people who lost their lives in this horrible tragedy. You can click here if you would like to find out how to donate. You can also click here to read about each of the victims.

Weekly Obsessions

Tristi: This week I am obsessed with #shutupanddribble. You can read more about the story here. But basically, Lebron James spoke out about some political issues in an interview on ESPN. A Fox News  host then said that he just needs to “shut up and dribble.” I was pretty horrified at that response and so were my kids. I just can’t believe this is the world we live in.

Cassidy: Right now I’m totally obsessed with the snow! It FINALLY snowed here. I went snowboarding earlier this week and it was just a perfect day. It was one of my happiest happy places.
